Service Description

Founded in 2009, Bass & Flinders Distillery was the first distillery established on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula — and from the beginning, they chose to do things differently. Inspired by traditional French brandy-making, they built their reputation around a remarkable grape-to-glass philosophy, creating their own spirit from Victorian wine rather than simply starting with a purchased neutral base. Using traditional double-distillation techniques, small-batch production and locally sourced Australian botanicals, Bass & Flinders creates gins, brandies and liqueurs that are unmistakably connected to the Mornington Peninsula. It’s a meeting of old-world distilling craftsmanship and modern Australian experimentation — serious technique without being afraid to push boundaries. At the centre of its next generation is Holly Klintworth, Managing Director and Head Distiller, who took over the family business from her father Wayne in 2016. One of Australia’s few second-generation distillers, Holly has continued the family obsession with quality while driving Bass & Flinders into new territory through innovative spirits, native botanicals and distinctly Australian flavours. For Icons of Industry, Holly joins us to take us inside Bass & Flinders — their history, their unconventional approach to distilling, and some of the creations that show exactly why this pioneering Mornington Peninsula distillery has earned its place in the Australian spirits story. A little side note from Seb & Simon: Bass & Flinders Maritime Gin is, quite simply, our favourite gin. Ever. And given the alarming amount of gin we’ve tasted in the name of “research”, that is saying something.
