Moorooduc Estate - Wednesday 25/11/26
A pioneering Mornington Peninsula estate, shaped by family, site and uncompromising Pinot Noir
Service Description
Founded by Richard and Jill McIntyre in 1982, Moorooduc Estate began as an empty paddock and a belief that the Mornington Peninsula could produce truly great wine. The first vines followed in 1983, making Moorooduc one of the early estates to recognise the region’s extraordinary potential for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Over four decades, Moorooduc has helped shape the identity of Mornington Peninsula wine. Long before many of today’s techniques became commonplace, Richard McIntyre was experimenting with wild yeast fermentation, minimal intervention and extended maturation, driven by curiosity rather than convention. That willingness to question, experiment and learn has remained at the heart of the estate ever since. Today, Moorooduc remains very much a family estate, producing wines entirely from the Mornington Peninsula and increasingly focused on individual vineyards and the differences between them. Its Pinot Noir and Chardonnay have become benchmarks for the region — wines built around site, texture, structure and an unmistakable sense of place. And carrying that story forward is Kate McIntyre MW. Richard and Jill’s eldest daughter, Kate became a Master of Wine in 2010 after ten years of study and is today Moorooduc Estate’s Director Wine Business, winemaker, educator, communicator and passionate advocate for Australian wine. For our Icons of Industry tasting, Kate won’t simply be presenting the wines of Moorooduc Estate — she’ll be telling the story of a family that helped prove what the Mornington Peninsula could become. Four decades of pioneering wine. One remarkable family. And an Australian wine icon to tell the story.
