Founded in 2000 by winemakers David O’Leary and Nick Walker, O’Leary Walker Wines brought together two remarkable Australian winemaking careers, generations of family history and a shared obsession with great wine from great sites. Both graduated from Roseworthy Agricultural College and spent decades with some of Australia’s most respected wine companies before joining forces. David’s career includes a Jimmy Watson Trophy and being named International Red Winemaker of the Year twice, while Nick is a third-generation winemaker whose family has contributed more than a century to Australian wine. Today, that legacy continues with Nick’s son Jack, the fourth generation of Walker winemakers. Based in the Clare Valley, O’Leary Walker has become particularly renowned for Riesling, championing the distinct character of Watervale and Polish Hill River rather than treating Clare as a single style. Their wines reflect individual soils, climate and place, while their portfolio also draws on some of the region’s oldest vineyards, including Shiraz from vines approaching and exceeding a century in age. More than 25 years on, O’Leary Walker remains owner-operated, proudly South Australian and deeply connected to the vineyards and families behind its wines. Recognised as a 5 Star Halliday Winery, it represents something increasingly rare: experience without complacency, history without pretence, and generations of knowledge still being passed from one winemaker to the next.
